Wellness is the result of deliberate effort

Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. It is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth.

“A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” – The World Health Organization.

There are eight dimensions of wellness: occupational, emotional, spiritual, environmental, financial, physical, social, and intellectual. Each dimension is interrelated with another and equally vital in the pursuit of optimum health.

Well-being and wellness are not the same thing

Well-being is a “feel good” condition of existence.  A state of well-being is focused on one’s holistic life experience: being content, balanced, and positive.

Wellness is the sum of all of the positive steps you take in order to lead a healthier life.

Despite their difference, well-being and wellness influence each other.  Both are essential components in living a healthier and more fulfilled work and personal life.

Sustainability takes a long-term and systemic approach

The concept of sustainability is based on a simple principle: Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. To pursue sustainability is to create and maintain the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony to support present and future generations.

“Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” – UN World Commission on Environment and Development.

It is composed of three pillars: economic, environmental, and social—also known informally as profits, planet, and people.
